Mary Picollo
July 30, 1938 - January 20, 2014
Resident of Sunnyvale
Mary Louise (Melvin) Picollo, passed away suddenly and peacefully at home. She has joined her husband and the love of her life of 55 years, Pete Piccolo.
Mom was raised with her family in the Monterey and Bakersfield area. Her father's work required the family to travel, often switching schools. She attended Kennewick High in WA then moved to Sunnyvale, graduating from Fremont High, class of '57. This is where she met her future husband, Pete Piccolo.
After high school, she graduated from Cosmetology School. Mom & dad then married on July 12, 1958. They both created & maintained long lasting relationships with their friends and she remained in S'Vale until her death.
She is survived by her 3 children: Lisa, Gina (Chuck) and Leo (Alejandra). She was Nonie to her 5 adored granddaughters: Julianne & Katie Dean, Maria, Daniella & Analia Picollo. Beloved Sister of Sharon Gregory, Brother-in-law Gus Picollo (Anna), as well as many nieces, nephews & cousins. Also she is missed by her loving companion, her dog Bella. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest & Jewel Melvin and brother, Don Melvin.
Mom was one of a kind with her positive, kind, and selfless attitude. Her generosity, sense of humor, mentoring and welcoming spirit will be forever missed. She loved to cook and there was always extra food at Nonie's table for whomever stopped by. She had a remarkable talent to create "something out of nothing".
Mom loved gardening, spending time with her family, shopping at garage sales, and thrift shops. She loved to share stories of her childhood and of hers and dads family. She was great at remembering the history of our entire family.
Vigil will be held at 2:00 pm on 1/28/14 at Spangler 174 N. Sunnyvale Ave., & Mass to be held at 11:00 am on 1/29/14 at St. Martin's Church 593 Central Ave.
