Major Jackson was a car builder then a car inspector for SouthernRailway. He subsequently became an air brake specialist.

A car he was inspecting at Southern Railway's Coster shops in Knoxville,Tennessee was struck by lightening. Again Major Jackson escaped withsever burns; however, a brakeman on top of the same car was killed. Laterwhile working at the Coster Shops a car fell on Major Jackson. He againescaped with his life, but was severely injured. This second mishapconvinced Major Jackson to resign from his employment with the SouthernRR, a decision he later regretted. After leaving Southern he became acarpenter.

According to the Knoxville City Directory, in 1908 Major was living inBearden R.D. 7, in 1909 at 1904 Grand Ave., in 1910 at 210 Burwell Ave.,in 1913 at 112 Arthur, in 1914 at 1234 Chalmer, in 1915 and 1916 at 1234Calloway Ave., in 1917 and 1918 at 1230 Calloway, in 1919 at 1234Calloway Ave., in 1920 he was living at 112 Lakeside Ave., in 1921 at1320 Lakeview Ave., and in 1922 at 303 Warren Ave. He is not listed inthe 1906, 1907, 1911, nor the 1912 Knoxville City Directory.
