Neal Alonzo Chesser was born February 4, 1896 in Mullin, Mills County, Texas. He was the son of John S Chesser and Mary Ellen Baker. In 1917, Neal enlisted in the United States Army and served in Company A, 111 Engineers, 36 Division during World War I.
On August 8, 1922, he married Nell Beckham Sellman in Brown County, Texas. Nell was born Feb 2, 1901 in McCulloch County, Texas and died Feb 12, 1978 in Brownwood, Brown County, Texas. Neal and Nell were the parents of five children:

Neal died in Brownwood, Brown County, Texas on August 27, 1954. He was survived by his wife and five children. He was laid to rest in Oakview Cemetery, Mullin, Mills County, Texas, next to his infant son.
