Cheryl Kay Richardson Schoen, age 74, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, went to her eternal home on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, after a short illness. She was born July 22, 1947, in Monett, Missouri, the first born daughter of the late Hal James and Virginia Lee (Bassore) Richardson.
Cheryl was a lifelong member of the Mt Vernon community and was a 1965 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School. Her mother was a founding member of the Mt. Vernon Church of Christ and her parent's faith was passed onto Cheryl. She was baptized into Christ at the age of 12. She loved her church and spent her life dedicated to the teachings of Christ.
She reluctantly met Jim on a blind date in July 1972 and much to her surprise it was "love at first sight". After a whirlwind courtship they were married on October 14, 1972. She was a faithful and devoted wife for 49 years. As a homemaker, she committed her life to the service of her family and children.
Her kids will remember her as a fierce momma lion who taught them to love and serve God, their family, and their community. She was their biggest cheerleader who taught them that anything was possible if you worked hard and loved God.
All who loved her will remember her ability to captivate the room with vibrant storytelling and an amazing ability to accessorize. Cheryl was always ready for the next adventure. She loved to celebrate God's creation through travel across states and countries. In retirement, she tended faithfully to her beautiful flower gardens that are the admiration of many.
She was a devoted Mimi to her four grandchildren, Lucas, Nella, Hudson and Reid. She gave the best hugs, the sweetest sweets and cherished the sleepovers and holiday parties they celebrated together.
Cheryl is survived by her husband Jim; two daughters, Stacy Gibson and her husband, Lance, of Searcy, Arkansas and Erica Smith and her husband, Darren, of Springfield, Missouri; one son, Nathan Schoen and his wife, Rebecca, of Mt. Vernon; four grandchildren, Lucas, Reid and Nella Schoen and Hudson Smith; one sister, Lee Ann Donoho and her husband, Greg, of Ozark, Missouri and one brother, Jeff Richardson and his wife, Kelly, of Aurora, Missouri; one brother-in-law, Steve Schoen and his wife, Debbie, of Monett, Missouri and one sister-in-law, Susan Senninger and her husband, Bob, of Freistatt, Missouri. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins which meant so much to her.
A visitation, under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, will be held from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at the Mt. Vernon Church of Christ with a celebration of life service to follow at 3:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at the Mt. Vernon IOOF Cemetery.
