Notes |
- Applied for a Confederate Pension in Burnet Co., TX on the service of husband James R. Sexton. (The index for the pensions lists her husbands name as: James R. Watkins!) It was approved by the state of TX on 25 Aug 1925.
In that application she states that James R. Sexton died on October 4, 1863 in Lousiana while still in the service. A witness named Henry Perry also states that he does not rembember the exact date, but that he helped bury James Sexton in Lousiana in the month of October, 1863.
Now for some other good information. Mary states that she was married to James R. Sexton on June 22, 1858 in Lampasas Co. (I am going to order a copy of that marriage license). That would have made her slightly under 17 years old when she married. At that young age she was probably still living at home.
Mary lived with her son William David until her death.
Mary Manerva Clark, one of the daughters of Old Isom & Jane, was first married to James R. Sexton, Sr., on June 22, 1858, in Lampasas County. That date and location is listed on her application for a Confederate Pension due to the death of James R. Sexton, Sr., during the Civil War. The first child born to Mary Manerva and James was James R. Sexton, Jr. James R. Sexton, Jr. was married to Louvica Ann Loving. There is a high probability that she was kin to Oliver Loving mentioned above. Her family lived near Youngsport in Bell Co. at one time. Two of the daughters of James Sexton, Jr. and Louvicia Loving later married into the Felix Hibler family in Burnet Co. This Hibler family is traced back to some of my other kin in Rockbridge Co., Va. during the early and mid 1850’s. (Research by Keith Reed)
