  "William was born in Williamson Co., TX. He was five years old when his father was killed over an argument about a dog. Like the other Clark orphans, he was raised in the homes of various relatives. William married Roxie Zane Nobles in January 27, 1883 at Bluff Creek, TX. They had eleven children. He moved to OK (Indian Territory) in 1893. In 1901 he moved his family to Dickens Co., TX. He paid three dollars an acre for 300 acres of farmland. William supplemented his income by working for the Matador Land & Cattle Co. On a roundup, his horse fell with him after stepping in a prairie dog hole. Prairie dogs were a huge problem at that time. The Matador Ranch asked him, while he was convalescing, to rig a wagon and ride over the prairie to destroy the prairie dogs. William concocted his own mixture of poison and was very successful. He became known as the champion of all prairie dog eradicators. He died sitting in his chair. No one knew he was ill. If he was, he wouldn't have told anyone anyway. He was not a complainer."
