1-23-1857 Statement to court by Emanuel Fox: Suit brought by Isaac Clark for the use of Willis McMahan which note is payable on the 25th Sep 1857 and dated 15th Sep 1856 and amount of one hundred dollars, is a forgery and not my genuine signature but agrees in amount with a genuine note that I gave to said Clark.

Don't know if this is the case that sent Isaac to jail of not. Seems likely, but not sure. Some of the dates seem to contradict themselves, but the July 1858 papers seem to also be "backdated" also. July 1858 papers were form the
large books in the basement and the divorce papers are there also. The remainder is from the attic (the actual court documents). (Beverly Pridemore Humphreys)
