The family said, "He rode a horse to TX and was never heard from again." He is listed as an heir to his father's property in 1870,and is listed on the division of the estate and sale of the property. His son sent a letter to Jack Sorrells saying that he died at a prayer meeting in Bowie, Texas. He was paralyzed and lived only 3 hours after the stroke. He donated the land for the cemetery where he and his wife are buried in TX.
