Notes |
- John's arrival in Surry Co., NC is 1774 then onto Wilkes Co. where he signed up for land, but never bought any, but lived supposedly on his father's 2000 plus acres. (Thomas Sr., Esquire). He married in Wilkes Co., and was one of the administrators of his father's estate in 1788 in Wilkes Co., NC. He was a Tory and went to GA during the Revolution then bought the Rutherford/Buncumbe land and sold it before 1790 when he bought several tracts of land in northern Greenville Co., SC. By 1810 he owned land in Knox Co., TN John and Susanna had 2 daughters in the 1780's and 4 sons all born in the 1780-1800 decades.
John and brother Isaac both sold land in Burke Co. He was in the 1800 Census of Rutherford Co., NC which is south of Burke County, NC. He is listed as having 4 sons and 2 daughters. He is listed in Wilkes Co. to administer his father's will in 1788.
He was in all 3 counties: Burke, Rutherford, and Buncumbe He is listed as a Tory on the 1783 Burke Co., NC list of Tories including John Deal, John Bradshaw, William, Joshua, etc.
Some descendants believe that he is the John listed in the War of 1812, even though he was age 55, listed in Jefferson Co., TN with Morgan.
