• Notes

  Alex McDougald was Justice of the Peace in 1882, and pioneer mail carrierat Hickory Creek. He was Deputy Tax Collector in 1884. He taught schoolfor several terms nearby. Contracted Tuberculosis and went to Texas andtaught until he was well. The Friendship School was established in 1881.The original directors were Alexander McDougald, G.F. Lively, and Rev.Alec Avery. Between 1908 and 1910, Piney Grove consolidated withFriendship. The final school year was 1930-31, taught by F.H. Douthitt.Alex McDougald evidently was a smart man but was given to drink. He laydown in front of his fireplace drunk and backed his feet and legs and wasa cripple the rest of his life.
