Notes |
- "Mr. Jim McDougald of Prescott, Arkansas, came to Oklahoma soon afterstatehood and purchased the Jefferson Gardner Estate on the west side ofMountain Fork River. This estate was then sold to the Cole and Stilesfamilies. The H.P. Cole family came across the Mountain Fork River in1910, from Prescott, as cousin McDougald had told of the work in Timberhere. The Coles saw a need for a school for the people of thecommunity. H.P. Cole, Allen, Bill, Floyd, and Artie cut some logs andtook them to a saw mill for lumber and constructed the Pleasant GroveSchool. This was known by some of the neighbors as the 'Cole' School."Mr. Osborne Blanche wanted an Indian name and called it "Pushmataha"School. This was a one-room frame building located about one-half mileeast of the present Tiner school building. There were usually fivewinter months of school and two summer months, if the County budget soallowed." (Broken Bow: The First Seventy-Five Years, p. 112).
