ISOLINE H. SORRELL, 77, died Saturday, April 15, 2006 from complications resulting from her courageous battle with cancer.
She was born December 21, 1928 in Martin County, NC to Harold E. and Susan Asby Hopkins. Isoline will always be remembered by her family as a wonderful, loving mother, grandmother, wife, daughter and friend.
Isoline, a long time resident of Cary, graduated from Cary High School in 1945. She met her husband, Judson J. Sorrell at Carolina Hardware where she worked until her first child was born. Isoline has been a member of First Baptist Church Cary since 1939 where she was involved with the Gleaners Club and Women's Circle. She was also a GA Leader, Cub Scout den mother, and after raising four children had her own day care in her home for nearly forty years. She retired in 1998.
Isoline was known for her wonderful southern meals which often included fried chicken and home made biscuits. Homemade vegetable soup using vegetables grown in a garden shared by her parents and sisters was one of her specialties. She also baked the best sour cream pond cake in Wake County. She was well known for her love of family and animals. Isoline always had a least one dog, a cat and often looked after the other animals in the neighborhood.
Isoline is survived by her four children, daughters, Janet Couture of Cary, Joyce Sorrell of Cary; sons, Jesse Sorrell of Cary, James Sorrell of Raleigh; sister, Evelyn L. Clayton of Cary; brother-in-law, Tommy Smith of Raleigh; five grandchildren, Kelli and Drew Sorrell, Brittany and Garrison Safriet and Jacob Sorrell.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Judson J. Sorrell.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at First Baptist Church Cary. Interment will follow at Montawn Memorial Park. Rev. Dr. Harvey Duke will officiate.
