According to family legend, his original name was ALEXANDER, but he changed it to TEAGUE-but DNA results prove that the descendants are TEAGUE and match with all the TEAGUE descendants from the Laurens County, SC families.
1860 Census of Greene County, Tennessee shows various stray Teague children were living in District 9: William Teague, born about 1845, South Carolina, living in the household of Eph Link.
He is listed with his own family on the 1870 & 1880 Census of Greene Co., TN.
He is listed as a farm laborer born in NC on the 1870 Census.

His Obituary states that he died at age 84 on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 at his home near Fairview in the 7th District.
From a Tennessee newspaper, Monday afternoon, March 17, 1930: "FATHER OF 20 CHILDREN DIES AT FAIRVIEW. Mr. William R. (sic) Teague Succumbs To Long Illness Saturday. Mr. William M. Teague, aged 84, died Saturday afternoon at three o'clock at his home near Fairview in the seventh district. He had been in poor health for some time owing to his advanced age, but had been confined to his room for only the past ten days. He was the father of twenty children, fourteen of whom survive. One was the late Mr. Robert Teague of this city. His wife is living and the following sons and daughters: Ben Teague, Frank Teague, Will Teague, Hubert Teague, Don Teague, and Kenneth Teague, Mrs. W. A. McLain, Mrs. Nell Kidwell, Mrs. J. I. Swiney, Mrs. R. H. Rupe, Mrs. T. R. States, Mrs. M. A. Gaddis, Mrs. N. M. Ripley, and Mrs. C. E. Kilday all of Greene County, and one sister, Mrs. Mark Crouch of Trenton, MO." (Should be listed as Mary COUCH!)
