- Ed Brents was educated around Dexter and Whitewright, Texas. At the age of seventeen he joined cattle drives up the Chisholm Trail from Texas to Kansas. At the age of 19 he was a Deputy Sheriff.
The main interest of his life was law enforcement. During his lifetime he was a Registered Pharmacist---was appointed Deputy United Stated Marshall at Ada, Indian Territory in 1902.--- Chief Special Officer in the Indian Service, working under the Commissioner of Indian Affairs in Washington, D.C.---and finally, Prohibition Director for the State of Oklahoma, in which position he served until the time of his death. He was licensed to practice law in many States as well as the Supreme Court of the United States. He was a Mason and a Shriner.
He was known as "The Dry Raider of Ada", having destroyed over eight hundred whisky stills.
