After the war, in 1865, he lived with his father, Pleasant, and his2nd wife, Anna, in Petersburg, IL. According to letters from hisdaughter Florence, he was captured during the war and imprisoned atAndersonville. She wrote that he attended the trial of Henry Wirtz.
On the 1880 census Leroy is listed as 30 yrs old and is a lawyer inPetersburg. Sometime between 1880 and 1884, he moved to Monmouth, WarrenCo., IL.
Genealogical Abstracts from Newspapers, IL mentioned Leroy on Sat,Sept 14, 1878 as elected foreman of an inquest jury involving the deathof a young boy. On Jan 11, 1879 he was associated professional withanother atty named Masters. Their partnership dissolved Jun 14, 1879 andhe opened a new office.
Leroy married Lizzie ? (possible surname TIMBERLAKE, a letter fromFlorence refers to her mother having a brother named "Timberlake."Surely this isn't a first name?!) in Monmouth, Warren Co., IL. Heryoungest child from a previous marriage was 3 yrs. He and his wife areburied in Quincy National Cemetery, Quincy, IL.
