- "He studied law and was admitted to the TN Bar. He was a very successful attorney and never lost a murder case of which he handled many. He loved to make money, and was a very good business man. He was born in Madison Co., NC. Educated at Murphy College, University of Tennessee, Knoxville; graduated from the later, LL. B., June 1901. He began his career as a farmer; he then was engaged in real estate, banking, stock trading, and farming. He was a member of the Masons, I.O.O.F. and W.O.W.; back tax attornery for Sevier Co., TN 1895-1896, and Mayor of Sevierville, 1901, 1902, and 1903.
Ambrose Paine, 1900 Sevier Co., TN census, 5th District, page 62, and found with his wife and two children, both of whom were still living (Myrtle and Thomas).
