- From Floyd H. Lawson, November 1998:
Research in Itawamba & Tishomingo Cos, MS, was done by a descendant of George Washington Ingle, Deborah Cromeans Williams of Fulton, MS. My profound thanks, Deborah - Floyd H. Lawson - Compiler. date 2 Sep 1998.
George Washington Ingle, Peter's son by Jane Odom, was a boat builder in Itawamba Co, MS, in partnership with his immediate older brother, William Ingle. He had been to Mobile, Alabama to deliver a boat. He returned on a Monday, in Feb. 1846. He died the following Thursady. (see Research).
Peter Ingle and his wife, Catherine W. "Caty" Tune Ingle lived fairly close to his brother, George. There was a segment of Blackwater Creek, near where the creek had a "ford" (a place where a road went from the Peter Ingle property and crossed the creek at the "ford" - a place where people and draft stock could walk across a creek. The Geo Ingle old home was partially standing when I was still a youngster. I, personally, have crossed Blackwater Creek at the Geo Ingle "ford." in the wagon with my mother and dad. I have fished in the old Peter Ingle "sucker hole" - a place where the locals would "bait" the place, with bread primarily, for a few days, then omit the bating for a day or so before fishing. This is thought to
have brought the fish to the area and accustomed them to eathing the bread. Then, they would drop their fishing gear into the area where the bating took place and catch the "big 'uns." This source of a supply of meat was very important to my relatives who lived there. This "baiting" continued until about WW II. I know, because my dad, Luther Franklin Lawson, has sent me there many times to bait the "Peter Ingle 'sucker' hole." It was, by some people in the area, called the "Dock Ingle Sucker Hole." Dock Ingle, my grandfather, owned property close to the place after all the others departed for Itawamba Co, MS, in about 1837. F H Lawson
