- My guess is that James Stewart would have been born some time in the 1840's & his parents were likely a James & Catherine Stewart. And this later James Stewart would have been born abt 1718 (according to Martha Stone ... although she "merged" these two James Stewarts into one man.) The records in Person Co., NC clearly indicate that there are two men named James Stewart. They applied for a land grant on the same day, 10 Dec 1778, in Person Co., NC and they showed then as James Stewart, Junior and James Stewart, Senior. James Stewart, Junior died in 1783 and his Will named his widow Agness and five children, to include our Mary Eliz., Wm Stewart and James Stewart, all mentioned above. James Stewart, Senior lived into the 1790's where he clearly showed on land records with his other sons. I don't know the exact year of his death. Prob. about 1795 or so.
