- I have searched the surname REESE/REES vertical files in the TN State Archives & Library, 2012.
Sally, his mother, is in Bedford Co., VA Census in 1830- in 1840 she is in Lincoln Co., TN (The land in VA is sold in 1831!)
Because Bedford Co., TN's early records were burned, it has been a challenge to find his first marriage paper trail. The Court Houses in Bedford Co., TN were built in 1810, 1821, 1830, 1873, and 1935. The Court House was destroyed in 1830 by a tornado. In March of 1863 Confederate soldiers made a fire to keep warm, but it spread to engulf the old courthouse and destroyed most of the records. Again, in 1934 the courthouse was destroyed by fire.
