- John Swinford born about 1773 in NC. The place and year were estimated from Census records (1850 and 1860 Censuses of Lincoln County, TN and information on his son, John's birth records) HOWEVER, the 1860 census lists his birth state as SC. Married Phoebe(?) about 1815 (estimated from censuses and son's birth records). Phoebe's name appears several different ways from Phoebe Feebee to Sheba to Reba. It is very uncertain as to what it actually was. It is estimated she was born about 1795 in NC (censuses and birth records). This may have been a 2nd wife, but that is just a speculation at the moment. They had a son named John born in 1816 in South Carolina (per birth record: Batch #868536, Sheet 39). The son, John married Arena Abbott on 14 July 1840 in Lincoln County, TN (per Lincoln County, TN Marriage Index). I know that the younger John was in Lincoln County, TN for his marriage and that both John's appear in the 1850 Lincoln County, TN Census (? I only find the younger! SSF). The Elder John appears in the 1860 Census and the younger John I haven't found yet in an 1860 census. The younger John appears in Pope County, IL Census of 1870. The elder John does not appear after 1860. Not sure when he died.
