J.A. Mobley Conklin of Malvern was called home May 22, 2014. Known to his many friends as "Popeye", J.A. was born March 2, 1931 to Henry and Mary (Crites) Conklin. He had a passion for fishing and the outdoors, rising well before dawn many mornings to enjoy both.
He took tremendous pride in his family and their accomplishments, no matter how minor, and had an endless capacity for love. He knew no strangers. In his younger days, he worked hard to provide the best life possible for his family, employed for 13 years at Reynolds before spending the rest of his working days as a logger.
J.A. was preceded in death by his first wife, Velma Inez (George) Conklin, his second wife, Lola Conklin, one brother, Louis Conklin, one sister, Katherine Collins, and his stepson, William Ross.
He is survived by his children, James (Belinda) Conklin, and Jerry (Linda) Conklin, both of Malvern, his step children Pat Wilson of Carlsbad, New Mexico, and Tommy Williams, Billy Williams, Wanda Roarck, and Howard (Debbie) Floyd, all of Fairplay. J.A. also had 19 grand children as well as many great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at the Atkinson Funeral Home Chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 26.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Shadowlawn Cemetery in Malvern on May 27.
Services will be officiated by either Howard Floyd or Todd Bray.
