Notes and Sources:
3. Arnold Family Bible [said to be "over 100 years old"] in possession of Mayo McIntyre: Elizabeth McIntyre died 15 Sept 1907
4. Fannie Clapp McIntyre [11C,2] "Grandma Lizzie couldn't read or write. She brought seven children to Virginia after her husband died on Unaka Mt. In NC."
5. Irby McIntyre [11C,3]
"Betsey McIntire came to Virginia because of the Hearls." Note: I seem to recall that Uncle Irby said that there was another son who didn't come to Virginia.Another vague memory is that he said Joseph's middle name was Spencer, but I'm not certain.Unfortunately, I didn't write what he said down - thought I'd remember.
6. Lydia McIntyre Hilbert [116,6]
"My father James Hughie McIntyre had a sister Charlotte, who married Hugh Harrell, and a brother John, a crippled man who
lived in Virginia. Something was wrong with his back, but he could reach the ceiling with his foot. They came from Yancey and
Mitchell Counties, NC. Charlotte had red hair."
Note: When I first met Lydia McIntyre Hilbert, I couldn't believe that she could be right in her assertion that her father and John were brothers. She didn't remember any other brothers or sisters from Virginia, so John must have been the only one who visited. Later after I found the 1860 and 1870 census records, I realized that she was correct. Lydia was a quite intelligent woman with a good memory. I liked her very much. Her description of John being crippled but able to touch the ceiling with his foot was a story also told in our family.
7. Fannie Scyphers Hite [111,443] "Bill and Lizzie McIntire were kin through the Hearls, but I can't remember how." Note: As it turns out, since Bill E. and Charlotte were half brother and sister, Bill was Lizzie's half-great uncle as well as her husband.
8. Deaths: Washington Co., VA
Charlotte Herrel d. 24 Jun 1888 Washington Co., VA; consumption; age 62yrs; b. NC
d/o. Jonah & Jane McIntyre Misreading of "Josiah" perhaps?
9. Sandra Kidd - gives info on Sarah McIntire Buchanan.
"I have identified another child of Josiah McIntire, a Mary McIntire, aged 18, died of typhoid fever in Yancey Co., NC, in April 1850.
From the census mortality records, which are recorded in the same order as the household were surveyed for the census, she can be identified as living in or near the household of Charlotte and Hugh Herrell. So I have added Mary, b. ca 1832, died April 1850 as another child. Per the 1840 census, this leaves two children unidentified, assuming the younger males in Josiah's household were his sons."
