Notes |
- Drusilla McEntire was her maiden name, she was not married when she had William Bryant McEntire. She was the daughter of James McEntire 1757-1818 Rutherford Co., NC and Lucretia "Creesy" Unknown. She is named in his will.
July 1818: Rutherford Co., NC Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions: Thomas Martin Esqr. returned to this Court Drucilla McEntire bond to indemnify the County for a base born child. Base born is illegitimate child and this is one month after William B. McEntire was born. Thomas Martin was the Justice of the Peace - not the father of her child.
Information that I’ve been told has Drusilla McEntire, daughter of James and Lucretia, giving birth to William Bryant McEntire in 1818. Later marrying a Mr. Black. And in 1856 she married Willis Weathers.

Note that in the 1870 census Drusilla appears as Mathes (or something similiar) ... I made a correction to Wethers yesterday based on the 1856 marriage but there was a William Mathes who was one of witnesses on the will of John Forbes. I didn't find a marriage record but it could have been in SC and probably the Black one also. They will never be found. And remember that William B. McEntire was the bondsman on the marriage to Weathers. That name is also known as Withers.
So, no doubt that professional genealogist Edith Garrett also concurs that Drusilla McEntire was the mother of William but no doubt of the Horn Y-DNA. She stated she married a Black and I could not find the record either but did find her marriage to Willis Weathers in 1856 in Rutherford Co. and note that W. B. McEntire was the bondsman. I found Willis in 1850, 60 and 70, etc. but Drucilla or Druscilla not with him. Pretty sure they were divorced pretty quickly but she was with William in 1870 census. She was transcribed as Methus but I made a correction today that it was probably Weathers spelled Wethers but transcribed wrong. I don't have time for more but here is the copy of that marriage and you can find the 1870 census.
