• Notes

  Dad added the Wesley to his name and dropped the "s" at the end in 1930's. This caused him no problems until he applied for social security in 1970 at age 62. I do have a letter verifying his baptism in a Methodist church in Burnsville, 1918 being the date of his baptism and the 1920 census tied him to that town, too. (Dwight Lynn SORRELLS) (2005) I did find out that granddad’s death certificate spelled it Sorrels, which is the way the Army had “Sarge Wes” registered. He died at the VA Hospital in Johnson City, TN and is buried in Burnsville with William Wesley Sorrels on the military stone there. My dad died at the same hospital 52 years after Sarge Wes. Dad’s buried in the VA cemetery there.
