Mildred "Millie", b. Abt 1770, Virginia d. Aft 1850, North Carolina (Age > 81 years) |
Marriage |
Abt 1797 |
Buncombe Co, North Carolina |
Notes |
- Did Joseph and Millie perhaps have a daughter Elizabeth born about 1816? There is a space in this family grouping to fit that and census numbers indicate another female. An Elizabeth had Henry Jackson Sorrels, son of Henry J. McClure? Court records indicate Elizabeth Sorrels took Henry J. McClure to court over birth of their child. See Henry Jackson Sorrels, unattached individual in database. On 1800 census Joseph and Millie had one male under 9 and one female under 9. The male does not show up in 1810 so perhaps he died young.
I'm guessing they married about 1795 to 1797 by birthdates of their known children. Since Joseph was granted land in 1795, assuming marriage took place in Buncombe Co, NC but can find no record of this to date so may be wrong. They may have married in Virginia prior to 1795.

Notes |
- On 1850 census Fanny has married George Trulove. These two boys are not living with the family but their ages are perfect to belong to this family. No other Whiteson families in the county at that time. I could be wrong on this.
The IGI has a marriage for George Trulove to Fanny Whitson 15 Feb 1844 in Haywood Co. There was an earlier marriage for a George Trulove to Jane Robison 24 Sep 1834 in Haywood Co. also. NC fiche on marriages states Fanny is daughter of Milly.

Notes |
- Birth and marriage info from IGI record. NC fiche for marriage records lists her as daughter of Millie Sorrels. She is living one house away from her mother in 1840 Haywood Co NC census. She has 1 son under 5 (Madison?), 1 son 5 to 10 (Thomas?) and 1 daughter 5 to 10 (Mary?). She is 30 to 40 with no husband at this time. Bob Medford has death date for John Whitson as "about 1838 in Haywood Co." 1850 census Haywood Co lists her as Sarah Frances married to George Trulove with children. Her Whiteson children are living with other families. In 1870 she is living in Towns Co. GA near her son Joseph and family. She is living with Uriah Thomas 40, Mary A. Thomas 27 and George W. 5. I believe this might be the Mary A. Nichols, age 7, that was living in her household in 1850 and she might possibly be her daughter but perhaps not. 1880 she is still with that family and listed as mother-in-law. Now we need to find out where the Nichols children come in. Sarah may have adopted them. The youngest was born 2 years after she married George so I don't think they are her blood children. Now to 1880, did George die? Did she and George split? Or do we have various Sarahs and Georges?
On 1860 Towns Co GA census her age is 54. 1850 Haywood Co. NC shows 44. I previously had her birth year as 1811.
