- I found reference to Henry on two films regarding court cases in Haywood Co. NC. It appears he was originally named Henry J. McClure and later changed it to Sorrels. I suspect Elizabeth Sorrels and Henry J. McClure (the probable parents) never married. Films #463090 and #463138 had under Haywood Co NC Index to Estates where John Felmut surrendered in open court a certain orphan by the name of H. J. Sorrels which was heretofore bound to him and the same was accepted by H. J. McClure. This was in February, 1843. I do not find Henry on the 1850 census for Haywood Co but one that fits in Macon Co (183-698, p 367). Henry Sorrels, age 16, b Haywood Co, living with the Zebulon A. Thomas family as a male laborer. This would be within two years of right age for Henry J. and possibly he was "farmed out" as a laborer. I believe Elizabeth was a daughter of Joseph Sorrels and wife Millie but have not found proof. An early census had the right number of daughters to cover her but without names, can't be sure.

Per Jerry Robertson, he was with the 25th NC Regiment, F Company during the Civil War and died of typhoid fever according to his military record. He is buried in Blandford Church Cemetery in Petersburg.

Henry J. Sorrells
I am trying to find the grave of my Greatgreatgrandfather Henry Jackson Sorrells, Sorrels, Sarrells. I was told he was wounded at Malvern Hill, Va. and died July 1, 1862. He was with the 25th North Carolina Infantry, Company F. His rank was Private. He was born in Haywood County, North Carolina and left a widow Adrah Cathey Sorrells and two children, Robert Henry and Alice. His wife was buried here in Haywood County as were his children. I have found no evidence of any pension or a request for one. My grandmother said he was buried in Richmond Va.
