Notes |
- Did Joseph and Millie perhaps have a daughter Elizabeth born about 1816? There is a space in this family grouping to fit that and census numbers indicate another female. An Elizabeth had Henry Jackson Sorrels, son of Henry J. McClure? Court records indicate Elizabeth Sorrels took Henry J. McClure to court over birth of their child. See Henry Jackson Sorrels, unattached individual in database. On 1800 census Joseph and Millie had one male under 9 and one female under 9. The male does not show up in 1810 so perhaps he died young.
I'm guessing they married about 1795 to 1797 by birthdates of their known children. Since Joseph was granted land in 1795, assuming marriage took place in Buncombe Co, NC but can find no record of this to date so may be wrong. They may have married in Virginia prior to 1795.

Notes |
- Everyone seems to believe this is the Elizabeth who had Henry J. McClure (later called Henry J. Sorrels) out of wedlock. Henry and Elizabeth were never married. Their son later took the surname of Sorrels rather than McClure. I strongly feel this is the Elizabeth who married John Cline in Macon Co. Vond dated 2 Dec 1845. With them on 1850 is William Sorrels 7 and Susannah Cline 4. Perhaps Elizabeth also had William out of wedlock.
Court records indicate Elizabeth Sorrels took Henry J. McClure to court over birth of their child.
Date and place taken from 1860 Macon Co NC census.
