"Pedestrian is Traffic Victim"
Hugh L. Sorrells, 81 takes step backward into path of car.
An elderly pedestrian stood for a tense moment near the middle of the street.
Two cars almost abreast were moving toward him watching the first, he stepped back - against the side of the second.
Hugh L. Sorrells, 81 of 2408 Market, was hurled to the pavement. he died five hours later in a local hospital. Funeral services were scheduled at 2 p.m. today at Shannon's North Side Funeral Home, led by Rev. M. Feland, pastor of Saginaw Methodist church. Burial was to be at Saginaw.
The accident at 4 p.m., Saturday at NW 25th and Gould, brought Tarrant County's traffic death toll for the year to 16, the city's to nine. All nine killed in Ft. Worth have been pedestrians.
Mr. Sorrells taking his usual evening stroll acorss 25th St. An auto driven by Edwin Langstown, 20 of 2709 NW 29th approached the intersection from the east. Another car was passing it in the same direction. Mr. Sorrells took a step back. Witnesses said he would have been safe had he stood still. Both drivers stopped and rendered aid. Police exonerated Mr. langston. The injured man was taken to a hospital in a Shannon's ambulance, died at 9 p.m.
Mr. Sorrells came to Fort Worth 15 years ago from Arkansas and lived with his son, Walter D. Sorrells. Three other sons and two daughters survive: J. T. of Conroe, Robert of Oklahoma, Cleve of Springfield, Mo.; Mrs. Eula Walters of
Mountain Home, Ark. and Miss Pearl Sorrels of Springfield, Mo. and a sister,
Mrs. Julia Brixley of Holdenville, Ark.*

Note: Hugh's wife, Lucy is buried in Midway Cemetery in Midway, Baxter Co., Arkansas. There is a double headstone with Hugh's name on it, but he is not buried in Arkansas, but in Texas

"Traffic Victim's Funeral Conducted"
"Rev. M. Feland conducted funeral services at 1 p.m., Monday for Hugh L. Sorrels, 81 or
2408 Market Street, who died Saturday night in a hospital here from injuries
received in an automobile accident earlier in the day.
Burial was in Saginaw Cemetery after services at Shannon's North Side Funeral Home.
The fatal accident, Tarrant County's sixteenth this year, occurred as Mr. Sorrels was walking across Twenty fifth Street at the Gould Ave. intersection about 5 p.m. Investigators said the victim stepped back to avoid one passing vehicle and into the side of the one driven by Edwin Langston, 20, of 2709 West Twenty Ninth Street, North.
Langston reported to police after rendering aid."
