James Clifford Sorrell was born January 27, 1877. He departed this life March 19, 1951, at the age of 74 years, 1 month, and 20 days. In December 1898, he was united in marriage to Eva L. Roberts, and to this union seven children, six boys and one girl: Mrs. Lydia Hall, Alsia Sorrell, Foy Sorrell, Earl Sorrell, and Audie Sorrell all of Myrtle, MO, and Loy Sorrell of Springfield, MO. One infant baby deceased. On March 7, 1927, his wife departed this life and went on. He leaves to mourn his passing besides the children mentioned above, two brothers, Finis Sorrell of Myrtle, MO, and Albinis Sorrell of St. Louis, MO; five sisters, Mrs. Ella Crass and Mrs. Lola Caldwell of Thayer, MO, Mrs. Leta Crass and Mrs. Clara Cantrell of Myrtle, MO, and Mrs. Zella Hunter of Gilman, IL. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. About the year of 1936 he lost his eyesight, and all these years feeling his way around and through much affliction was very patient and trusted in God. He gave his heart to the Lord many years ago. He believed and stood for the truth to the end. His desire was to go on and to be with the Lord, though he said he hated to leave us all. Some of his last words were, "be good and stand for the Bible way."
Funeral services were held March 21 at the Church of God chapel with the Bro. Darius Gibson and Bro. Murphey Allen officiating. Burial was in the Myrtle Cemetery under the direction of Carter Funeral Home of Thayer. Pall bearers were Kenneth Sorrell, Clifford Sorrell, Edward Lee Sorrell, Lovell Sorrell, Lehman Sorrell, and Leo Hall. (all are grandsons)
