John (Dutt) Rees Buried Sunday (1963)
John H. (Dutt) Rees, 71, well known Hallettsville area resident, died in
the Renger Memorial Hospital, Inc., in Hallettsville, March 8, at 4:30
p.m. following a lingering illness.
The deceased was a resident of the Sublime Community all his life, nine
miles east of here. He was a former baseball player and was a staunch
baseball fan, who appreciated seeing big league baseball come to Houston.
The remains were removed from the Kubena Funeral Home here at 1:00 p.m.
and were taken to the Sublime Baptist Church where the body lay in state
until 2:00 p.m. when services were held there, Sunday, March 10th. Rev.
C. L. Weigel officiated.
Interment was in the Geiger Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ervin Brown, Halton Buchanek, Bill Parks, Hilmer
Woytek, Orin Pustejovsky and Jess Howell.
Mr. Rees was born in Lavaca County, at Sublime, December 9, 1891. He
was a carpenter by trade, retiring several years ago. On April 25,
1916, he married Miss Ida Mae Kersh at Houston and the couple settled at
Sublime.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. J. H. (Ida Mae Kersh) Rees; one son, George
Rees of El Campo; two daughters, Mrs. Halton Buchanek of Sublime, and
Mrs. Fred Potter of Sublime; three brothers, L. J. (Ike) Rees of
Sublime, Tom (Perce) Rees, Jr. of Hallettsville, and William Rees of
Nacogdoches; one sister, Mrs. Otto Linhart of Kenedy; 10 grandchildren
and 3 great-grandchildren.
