Henry was in the Union Army during the Civil War.
He was a Captain of Co. G, Third Tennessee Infantry of
the Federal Army.
SOURCE: Sevier Co Deeds, Book H, p.243, 12 Feb 1843, Henry
G. Hodges, formerly of Sevier Co, but now a passenger
to the West, am interested and entitled as heir of
Edmond Hodges deceased, to portion of land Edmond Hodges
owned at time of his death. I do appoint by brother
Eli P. Hodges of Sevier Co atty to seal, sign and execute
deeds of conveyances, etc. Wit: Hugh B. Leeper,
William H. Hodges, J. M. Leeper, Joseph Hodges.
Records indicate that he joined the 3 East Tenn Volunteers, on
on 10 Feb 1862 at Flat Lick, KY for a period of 3 years.
In a fight at Big Hill, Ky, Aug 22, 1862, at Richmond, KY on
Aug 30, 1862.
On a Memorandum from Prisoner of War Records, it states that
he was captured 30 Aug 1862, and confined at Richmond, VA,
later stating that he was paroled at Richmond, VA, and reported
to Cincinnati, Ohio, (date not given) .
He later reported as a Capt to Co G, 3 Regt Tenn, Infantry,
aged 45 years at Nashville, TN on Feb 23, 1865, saying that he
was last paid 31 Dec 1862. Remarks: Joined the Co to
fill an original vacancy Feb 10, 62, Dismissed by Special
Order No 130 from Sec of War, Restored by Special Order No 217
from Sec of War dated June 23, 1864 and not yet reported
for duty.
He was taken by the Rebels, paroled.
On 30 Jun 1864, he was under the command of Col. L. C. Houk.
In a copy of one set of his orders, it says the following:
Special Order No 50.
Headquarters 1st Brigade
2nd Division
Murfreesboro Tenn, .. 1863
1). Captain Henry G. Hodges Co, G., 3rd Regiment E G V P or f
being absent at Nashville with authority is ordered to
report himself to his Company and regiment for duty at
once.
2nd). All other officers and soldiers without authority
absent from this Command without authority are likewise
ordered to report themselves for duty to their companies
and Regiments without delay.
