Notes |
- DNA evidence has proven the exact relationship. John James is connected to the family of Joseph Rogers James.
The John James family bible has been located. However, the pages are so worn and smudged, we cannot identify the persons.
The bible has an entry that shows there may have been another brother of John James, name unreadable, date of birth as Aug 18, 1799.
John James married twice. It has not yet been determined which children belonged to which mother. It is a safe bet that Manecia (Unesee) and the younger siblings were by Nancy, the second wife. However, the author feels that daughter Celina Caroline was also by Nancy.

(The 1850 census shows John and Nancy living in Benton Co, AR. and that his occupation was "Mill Write". Milt James believes that son William learned about grist mills from his father John. When John died in 1858, he and Nancy were homesteaded on a river west of Fayetteville, possibly with a grist mill)

The 1860 census shows Eliza Jane (James) Pass as having been born in Arkansas in 1833 so John moved his family from Tennessee sometime between 1830 and February 1833. The 1840 census puts the family in Valley Springs, Carroll County (now Boone County).
