The names and death dates below were taken from Lawrence County Chancery and County Court petitions housed at the Lawrence County Archives. Some documents tell an approximate birth date or age, county where died if other than Lawrence and a few give wife's name or marriage date .
King, Joshua - died September 1861
A Chancery Court Petition (B8, F150) brought by John H. King & A. O. Williams against Spencer Dickson the former administrator for fraudulent use of funds when settling the estate of Joshua King. Joshua died in Sept. 1861 and his wife had died previously. From the court case it sounds like Joshua did not have much to settle but owed bills. At least this will give you his death date and show that his wife died before so is not in the 1870. She either died in 1860 after the census or early 1861.
No cemetery records or obituaries were found. They could be in an unmarked grave in one of the cemeteries in the area or buried on their property and never marked or with just a fieldstone. Most of the newspapers are missing for the 1860s because of newspapers sold many times, offices were moved many times and there were fires several times.
