  Dovey is listed in the Davidson Bible (possessed by Lora Berry Davidson) as Dovey Robison. Dovey is listed as niece in the will of Mary Robison Steele (see attached notes). Mary's husband, Ninian Steele, is the son of Captain Ninian Steele (History of Captain Ninian Steele of North Carolina). Ninian died in Tuscaloosa AL after they moved there with the Davidsons. Mary Steele moved to Pontotoc Co MS with the Davidsons. Mary Steele - Will The State of Alabama Tuscaloosa County - June the 18.59 In the name of God, Amen, I, Mary Steel of the State of Alabama & County of Tuscaloosa being of sound mind and memory through & feeble in body I do hereby ordain publish and declare this to be my last will and Testament that is first all my lawful and funeral expenses be paid and second that the residue of my real and personal estate I give bequeath of as follows to wit: that is that I will and bequeath to by beloved niece Eliza Falls and to her heirs for ever that is my interest in my real estate that is the Lowe tract of land and also my niece Dovey Davidson I will and bequeath to her and her heirs forever the following property to wit: two Negroes one girl Mary Jane and one boy James Madison on condition the said Dovey Davidson give me three hundred dollars and on condition it is not given to me to give to my niece Ann Jane Chambers and also to Ann Jane Chambers I give and bequeath one cow and calf and also one bed and furniture and also to my niece Mary Jane Kirk I will and bequeath one clock and one real and also one spinning wheel and if any residue left to be sold and to be divided equal between the three first named heirs. Likewise I make a constitute my beloved Son in Law milas A Davidson of Mississippi and Elvin Norton all executors of this my last will and testament and that all former wills be revoked. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed seal on this the 18 day of June in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty nine. her X mark Mary Steele (Seal) The above written instrument has been subscribed by the said Mary Steel on and acknowledged by her to each of us to be her last will and testament and we at the Testor request and in presance have signed our names withesses hereunto. Written on this the 18th day of June 1859. Josiah B Archibald Alabama Tuscaloosa County , J W Dolton, Alabama Pickens, James M Allen, Alabama Pickens Probate Court Pontotoc County, Mississippi April Term 1852 To the Hon Wm S Bates Judge &c The petition of Milas a Davidson Respectfully shows that Mary Steele, late of said County departed this life the 2nd day of October 1861 leaving a last will and testament in the County of Tuscaloosa in the State of Alabama and which was duly signed published and declared by her in that State and County prior to her death and on the 27th day of December 1851 (year in longhand) was duly admitted to Probate in hand by the judgement and decree of the Probate Court of the Probate Court of the said last mentioned County and State according to the laws and usages of the same. A duly Certified copy of which said Will proved according to the laws of the state of alabama aforesaid is here to annexed and which he in accordance with the Statute now here presents to the Hon Court for Probate. That said Testor in her Will and Testament nominated your petitio Petitioner and Elvin Horton Executors, and that said Elvin Horton is a citizen and resident of the State of Alabama and refuses to act as such Executor as will appear by his letter herewith filed. Said Testor died seized and possessed of a small Estate real and personal specified and sat forth in the said Will, the land situate in alabama and the personal Estate in the said County of Pontotoc in this State. The Estate in Mississippi worth about $2000.00. Your Petitioner being willing to meet the desires of the said Testor and carry unto effect her testamentary therefore prays the court that the said Will be admitted to Probate, and that letters testamentary be granted to him upon his executing a Bond in such penalty with B W Howell his security and qualifying as your honor shall present. Your Petitioner suggest Milton Hodas, R B Whitaker and Henry Lansford friends of the said Testator appraisers of the said Estate and that Your Honor shall make such other orders as to Your Honor shall seem meet, and he will ever pray &c Milas A Davidson Petitioner.
