Mr. Jack Sorrels Dead:
It pains us to have to give the death of R. J. Sorrells whose remains were interrred at this place Monday afternoon. While his death was not unexpected, still it cause quite a shock to his many friends. Mr. Sorrells had reached old age but was quite stout until within the past year, when he began to fail and gradually failed until the end.
He was born in this county in May 1840. Went to the civil war and was in Co A., 16th GA Inf. Reg., was captured at the Fort at Knoxville in Dec 1863. This being the first engagement he was in, after being shot at battle of Chancellorsville, VA.
Mr. Sorrells was a Mason and a member of the Danielsville Presbyterian church.
The funeral was preached by Rev. Samuel Cartledge of Athens and his interement was conducted by the Masonic fraternity in the presence of a large concourse of his friends and associates.
