No census record for John Newton Sorrels has been found after 1880. It appears from family information that he was in the Dallas, Texas area in 1905. In 1913 he applied for a pension based on his Civil War military service. The information from his pension application is as follows:
Application #1293539; Certificate #1067373 dated 6 Dec 1913 filed in Texas.
It states he served in the U. S. Infantry. The image is hard to read but it appears
to read "Tenne 2K Ar 5, U. S. Inf. Hosp Corp USA". The application is signed by
J. H. Hunter.
