THE IDENTITY OF AARON FREEMAN'S FATHER1700s
There is no documentation, to date, that definitively identities the father of Aaron Freeman. Merrill Hill Mosher, in John Freeman of Norfolk County, Virginia…, drew this conclusion based on her research of the Freeman family. Mosher acknowledged, however, the possibility of Aaron’s father being either John Freeman or John’s brother, Thomas Freeman.(i) The 1759 tax list for Rowan Co., North Carolina included the following individuals with the “Freeman" Surname, who might have been connected to Aaron Freeman of this line:(ii)

Aaron Freeman was reportedly named in the will of his father, John Freeman, but it is not certain that the individuals named in the Bertie Co., North Carolina will transcribed below are the father and son of this line [TRANSCRIPTION INCLUDED HERE AS A POINT FOR FUTURE RESEARCH]:
“… (Bertie County Original Wills, CR .010.801.5): "I give and devise unto my son Aaron Freeman my mannor plantation whereon I now live and my lands which lies southerly thereof and thereto adjoining and my saw mill with all the saws and appurtenances thereunto belonging to hold to him, his heirs, assign Forever." About Aaron Freeman (1745-1825)

Aaron Freeman (b. 1745 in Bertie County, NC or Chowan County, NC; d.1825 in Buncombe County, NC) married Mary Bentley (b. ? d. 1825 in Buncombe County, NC) on 12/17/1769. (Rees Genealogy, Volume 13, Jan-Feb1980) Aaron Freeman was a born circa 1745 and died between 1820-1880,maybe 1825. He was a Revolutionary War patriot. When the War started he was about 31 years old. He was a native of Bertie County, NC. Aaron and his brother John, were among the first settlers to move to the Piedmont and eastern slopes of the Southern Appalachians. They did so when the area was still largely in control of the Catawba and Cherokee Indians.
The French and Indian War was raging. He was with John when John received a land grant of 200 acres from the Earl of Granville on
5/3/1763. This land was located on the main fork of the Yadkin River 20 miles south of Salisbury, NC. Aaron was the son of John Freeman, a prominent and wealthy planter in Bertie County, NC, and Tabitha. Aaron and Mary had 5 known sons and several daughters. The sons were Joshua, Thomas (also a Revolutionary War patriot), Jesse, Aaron, and Rev. Moses Freeman. Aaron and Mary lived for many years in Rowan County, NC and later moved to Wilkes County. In 1803 they moved to Buncombe County and
his son, John, deeded him 75 acres. It appears that Aaron was an Indian Agent while he lived in Buncombe County. (Rees Genealogy, Volume 13, Jan-Feb 1980).

I am a direct descendant of Aaron Freeman and Mary Bently Freeman, and I started the Freeman DNA research two years ago with my one remaining male, direct descendant, and he was proven to be 99.9 percent Native American. No surprise, our grandmother's had told us all our lives that we are Cherokee / Choctaw. Grandmother's did not tell lies. I am 79 years old, a great grandmother and I am continuing the research and telling my grandchildren the same stories. Tabitha Hoyter Freeman, and Narcissa Collens McClellan, and Alabeth Ball Freeman were all native women, and were my grandmother.

Merrill Hill Mosher also proves out the line of Aaron Freeman born of John Freeman and Tabitha Hoyter, and proves that the Aaron and another Aaron Freeman who marries Mary Bently are 2 different people. I've been researching this line for about 15 years now, and still have no definitive evidence of who Aaron's father is. This past summer, however, a fellow male researcher (D. Freeman) with proven connections to Aaron and Mary's son Aaron Posey Freeman and Rev. Moses Freeman (grandchildren of each were married) took the Y-DNA test (http://www.carnicle.com/DNA_Project/) and we discovered our Aaron Freeman line started with a Native American male (Q1a3a Haplotype), probably at least one, possibly two generations before Aaron who marries Mary Bently. Interestingly enough, all the Freeman lines listed on the Freeman DNA project with Q1a3a haplotype are interelated somehow. I have my theories as to which Native America tribes of the region, but no proof at this time.
