- Richard Sorrell was the son of a William Sorrell who died in Caroline in 1814 and left a will naming his children.
Richard SORRELL. Richard was born before 1775. He married Ann Un circa 1795. Richard died circa 1807 in Caroline County, VA.
He appeared for the first time on the Personal Property Tax Lists of Caroline County, VA, in 1796.17 He appeared for the last time on the Personal Property Tax Lists of Caroline County, VA, in 1807. In 1807 Richard appeared as "Richard Estate" indicating he has died before the date of the tax collection. The last year Richard appeared under his own name was 1806.
The family of Richard Sorrell has been established from the following Caroline County record, abstracted here: "12 Aug 1818- Thomas Sorrell vs Ann Mullen in her own right and as executrix of Richard Sorrell, dec'd, and Elizabeth Sorrel by George Alsop, guardian ad litum. Thomas Sorrell, one of the devisees of Richard Sorrell, dec'd, states that his father left in his will to his wife Ann Sorrell for her lifetime. Richard left three children; viz Thomas, Elizabeth and another who died underage & w/o being married. Ann Sorrell, the widow, has married William Mullen and is Ann Mullen. Thomas Sorrell has come of age and petitions the court to divide the estate."60,61

Caroline County, Caroline Guardian Books; 1806-1821, pp 220 of Guardian Book 1806-1821-" We, Thomas Sorrell and George Alsop, are held and firmly bound to Henry Coleman, James Garnett, Charles Lewis, and Theodore Coleman, justices of Caroline Court in sum of $600. Sealed with our seals the 14th day of September 1818 in the 43rd year of the Commonwealth. The condition of the above obligation is such that if Thomas Sorrell, guardian to Elizabeth Sorrell, orphan of Richard Sorrell, dec'd, then this obligation to be void.
