In 1871 a Reuben Sorrell filed an application for a pension for his service in the War of 1812. He says that he was born in 1791 in Caroline, lived in Caroline when he enlisted in 1814 and lived in Orange County in 1871 when he filed application. He said his
father was John Sorrell, a Baptist minister who was born in Essex County. He says his mother was an Elizabeth Sale, sister of Samuel Sale of Spotsylvania County. Reuben says he and his younger brother Hiram were living with his parents when he enlisted. He mentions a brother John who evidently also served in the War of 1812 at Camp Carter.
