- "Col. Thomas Ingles, possibly a son of William Ingles, an Elder 1700 , in Monreagh Presbyterian Church, County Donegal, came to Virginia about 1740, settling 1749 in what is now Montgomery County. His son, Col. William Ingles, was born 1729 and married 1750, Mary Draper." (Source: "McClure Family," by James Alexander McClure.) According to "Annals of Augusta Co., Virginia, 1726 - 1871," by Joseph A. Waddell - Thomas Ingles was a widower when he came from Ireland but had a younger brother named John . "Thomas Ingles, according to family tradition, was descended from a Scots family, was born and reared in London, lived about 1730 to 1740 in Dublin, Ireland, was a large importing wholesale merchant, was wealthy, owned his own ships and traded with foreign countries, chiefly to the East Indies."
