Raymond M. Sorrells, 88, of Russellville, died Sunday, November 29, 2009, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.
The son of Hobart and Phosia Burnett Sorrells, he was born June 11, 1921, in Atkins. Raymond was a 1939 graduate of Russellville High School and attended Arkansas Polytechnic College. He served with the United States Army during World War II in the European Theatre. He married Virginia "June" Bullock on September 7, 1947, at Russellville. Raymond spent his career in the auto repair industry. The family moved to Anaheim, California, in 1958 and returned to Russellville in 1971 where Raymond established Sorrells Body Shop. He was a member of the Arkansas Collision Repair Association and the Riggs Hamilton Post of the American Legion. He enjoyed sports, music and traveling with his family. He was a member of the West Side Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; 2 brothers, Bob Sorrells and David Sorrells and a sister, Emma Flurry.
He is survived by his wife, June Sorrells, Russellville; 4 sons, Stephen Sorrells, Randy Sorrells and wife Jeanne, Yukon, Oklahoma, Jamie Sorrells and wife Beth, Russellville, Jeff Sorrells and wife Margi, Farmington; 6 grandchildren, Mike Sorrells and wife Amber, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Vandy Moore and husband Keith Russellville, Melanie Sorrells, Russellville, Jackson Sorrells, Russellville, Caleb Sorrells, Farmington, Leah Sorrells, Farmington; 2 great grandchildren, Casey and Cody Sorrells, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Funeral will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at Humphrey Chapel. Dan Lightfoot and Bruce Grice will officiate. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Russellville by Humphrey Funeral Service. Military honors will be provided by the Rogers Rye Post #2283 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, at the funeral home.
