June Term 1777
Then was the within last will and testament of Christopher Barbee in open court duly proved by --- of Thomas Barbee & Samuel Saxon subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. Wake County The within last will and testament of Christopher dec'd was recorded in the clerks office of Wake County in Book A and pages 97 and 98 this 12th day of July 1772."
From the Will it appears that daughters Marthey (Martha) Wimberly and Anney Barbee were already married and had children. The referenced Barbee Family Book indicates that Anney was possibly the wife of Goin Barbee since it appears that her married name was Barbee and the will of Goin Barbee dated 8 Apr 1806 names his wife as Ann. From the Barbee Family reference, p 59, is given: "At the Wake Court for December 1780 "The Court Ordered that Gray Barbee, Samuel Saxon, and John Mottley be appointed to divide the perishable part of estate of Christopher Barbee between Rose Barbee, Sukey Barbee, Christopher Barbee and Abimeleck Barbee, orphans of said Christopher, agreeable to will of testator and report to next Court." This shows that Margrit (Margaret), Christopher's widow, died before December 1780, as Christopher's estate was not to be divided until after her death." "Among the Wake Conty documents in the NC archives in a box of Estate Papersare two which concern Christopher Barbee's Estate. These are the Guardian Bond for Thomas Barbee, dated 3 March 1782, as "Guardian for Christopher Barbee a minor an orphan of Christopher Barbee" Signed by Thomas Barbee, Joseph (X) Barbee. Witness, J. Rice; and the bond of Joseph as guardian of Abimeleck Barbee, minor, son of Christopher, with the same signatures as the bond above." [1]
