The homeplace of early settler William Barbee of Middlesex County, Virginia, whose 1753 grant of 585 acres from the Earl of Granville was the first of two land grants, is now the Chapel Hill-Durham area. Though William Barbee died shortly after establishing himself and his family in North Carolina, one of his eight children, Christopher Barbee, became an important contributor to his fathers adopted community and to the fledgling University of North Carolina.

I have seen places that list Hope Bland as William's mother but I first found Hope Bland listed as William's wife Elizabeth's mother.

Notes
"The Barbee Family has been the subject of two excellent studies. Thoes studies provide most of the information in the present chapter and connect the Barbee line with several other lines in North Carolina and Virgnia. It will be noted that the Barbees are ancestors of the Lynn family directly, and of the Hutchins family indirectly through the Patterson, Trice, Rhodes, and Vickers lines. The Miller family, ancestors of the Barbees, are also ancestors to the Rhodes lines."
"Ruth Herndon Shields, Belle Lewter West, and Kathryn Crossley Stone, "A Study of the Barbee Families of Chatham, Orange, and Wake Counties in North Carolina." Kathryn Crossley Stone, "A Supplement to A Study of the Barbee Families of Chatham, Orange, and Wake Counties in North Carolina." In 1994, Mr William Lindsay Hopkins reviewed all the documentary material available to that date without turning up any information with which to extend the Barbee line. Mr Hopkins was able to find some futher information to fill in various details concerning the life of William Barbee whoe died in Middlesex County Virgnia in 1721."

All that we know of William Barbee and his two wives is taken from the Parish Register and Vestry Book of Christ Church, Middlesex County, from his Will, and five land deeds in Middlesex County. Question is William Barbee II husband of Elizabeth Barbee the son of William Barbee I? If Wiliam Barbee II received land from William Beamount do you think that William Beamount son of Hope Bland could be the parent of Elizabeth Beamount and perhaps the deed of gift her dowry?
William Beamount would then be the son of William Beamount and Hope Bland and the Grandson of Perregrine Bland.

our Williams' father was born in England, but the William first born in America was his son William Barbee 1660-1720. records show this date as his Christening in Christ Church, Saluda VA. a small villiage 20 miles north of Williamsburg VA.
There are conflicting reports that our Williams'( 1660-1720 ) father was named John........whatever , Williams first son John born in VA and migrated with his wife Ann Miller to Orange Co N C.
That Church is still standing, not in full use but maintained and protected, I have seen records that show William and his son John as members of the church.

William Barbee of Middlesex County, Virginia, was born ca 1655 and died between Jan 5 and Feb 5, 1720. The Parish Register of Christ Church, Middlesex Co., VA has listings of births, baptisms, and marriages of William and his children.
His will was written 05 Jan 1720 and proved in court 05 Feb 1720. A copy of this is found in K. Stone's works on the Barbee families. He names his three first born children and only states his estate is to go to the children by his last wife, thereby confirming his two marriages.
William Barbee was granted 200 acres of land on 06 Jun 1699 from William Beaumont, which was from the first grant of 100 acres to Perrigrine Bland. Perrigrine had daughter, Hope (married to a Beaumont) who inherited his estate in 1650. A Patrick Miller was also granted land from William Beaumont. Was Patrick father to Ann Miller who married William's son, John Barbee? Patrick Miller then gave this land to William Barbee on 04 Jan 1689. Essex and Middlesex Counties, Virginia (1660 - 1720). Descendants moved to the Wake, Chatham, Orange County area of North Carolina and then many branches went to Tennessee. A very few branches went to Kentucky, Georgia and Texas. This is one of the best documented Barbee lines. For extensive information on this line look for "A Study of the Barbee Families of Chatham, Orange and Wake Counties in North Carolina" by Ruth Herndon Shields, Belle Lewter West and Kathryn Crossley Stone, 1971 in many genealogical libraries. There is a thick supplement also.
