Francis Searles married Judah or Judith Purefoy*#. Their son Coventon Searles*# was named for Francis's Mother Elizabeth Covington Searles. Coventon*# is a proven Patriot having served in Captain Erhul's Company of Craven County Militia during the Revolutionary War. Lida Archbell Overton*# submitted his proofs to the NSDAR.

Francis Searles will is dated February 16, 1765 and was proved in July Court, 1765. (Excerpts from the Genealogical Research conducted by Mrs. Dewey W. Huggins, Genealogist, Raleigh, at the NC Archives in 1965 states will probated in 1769. The estate records of July 1769 call Juda in fact Judithy.) Lida Overton provided a copy of this will.

Francis left his dearly beloved wife Judah Searles all my whole estate during her widowhood, sons: Covington Searles, Edward Searles, Daughter Winifred Searles with other sons and daughters mentioned, but not named. The Executors were Judah Searles, John Hartley, Witnesses: Martin Whitford, John Thomas, Mary Whitford, C. C. Peter Conway. In a deed dated September 28, 1749, Proven September 20, 1752, Thomas Fisher late of Craven County to Francis Searles of Craven County 105 pounds, 124 acres, at head of Swift's Creek. Witnesses, Robert Peyton, C. J. James Hassell.
