Bessie Nancy Jane Sorrell Jackson was born February 14, 1882 near Myrtle, MO to Elijah and Caroline Sorrell and departed this life November 14, 1944 at the age of 62 years and 9 months.
She was united in marriage December 26, 1897 to Charlie Copas Jackson with Rev. H.C. Kirkpatric performing the ceremony.
To this union 4 children were born. One son, Bedford, died in infancy. The surviving children are Cecil Jackson and wife, Fannie; Oren Jackson and wife, Bertha; Neta Dedmon and husband, Chas. Five grandchildren Jesse Ray Jackson, Marie and Betty Dedmon, Barbara and Goldina Jackson. One granddaughter, Norma June Jackson, preceded her in death. She also leaves her husband, mother, 3 brothers, Jimmie, Finis, and Albinis Sorrell; 5 sisters, Clara Cantrell, Luella Crass, Lola Caldwell, Leta Crass, and Zella Gregory.
She was converted at the tender age of 9 years and joined the Freewill Baptist Church at Byrd. She received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost and from them until the last she depended solely on God for her needs.
Near the end she said, "Live or die, Lord, I'm trusting You". She composed, and left, as a testimony to her sorrowing loved ones, the following poem:
Asleep in Jesus, blessed sleep,
Why do loved ones o'er me weep?
From this land of sorrow, angels have come
To carry me away to that heavenly home.
She lived most of her life near Myrtle, MO and Pocahontas, AR. Her many friends and relatives found her to be a devoted wife, loving mother, and a friend in time of need. Her cheery smile and willing hands will be a pleasant memory to all who knew her. She was never too busy with earthly things to give praise to God for His goodness.
While we all will miss her, we feel our loss is Heaven's gain. We are sure she is at rest with the Lord she loved so much.
