- I have come across this information before as well, and some of it is in error. There doesn't seem to be any proof that Meshack Red and Ann Davis are parents of G. W. or G. B. Redd. The birthdates of these two seem to differ by only a couple of months, so either the dates are wrong, or they are not brothers.
The Barnwell location is correct however as is the burial place for both G. W. and G. B. Redd, along with G. B. Redd's wife Alafair. As for children of these two men buried at First Baptist Church, I can definitely say that G. B. Redd's daughter, Rosa Redd Chapman, is there, as well as G. W. Redd's son, Soverign A. Redd, and daughter Emma Redd Johnson, are there. I have photographed those graves myself.
Concerning Ms Towner's book, I have Volume 2 and found a lot of helpful info. But as you said, she does have some errors, one being that George Washington Redd was married to Harriet FOX. She was actually Harriet RENEW, daughter of Archibald J. Renew. Harriet's brother, A.J. Renew (Jr.) married second to Alice REDD. Harriet's sister, Caroline, married James M. Kaney. I have shared the correct info with Cyril and Elspye to be passed along to Ms Towner.
But Ms Towner's book has me confused in several places. In Vol 2 on page 259 she includes the will of James Davis Jr, indicating that this is Nancy Ann Davis' father (wife of Meshack Red). But the info states that his WIFE was Ann Davis, and lists three sons, Gardener, James and Budd, ONLY. She adds that those receiving a part of the estate were William Davis, Meshack Red, Harden Davis, Allen Davis, Budd Davis, Thomas Phillips who married Mrs. Zelpha Davis, widow of James Davis Jr.
So......I don't fully understand the James Davis JR, was he the FATHER of Nancy Ann, Gardener, Budd and James THE THIRD? Are the other Davis names (William, Harden, Allen) other sons, or other relatives?
