Leo A. Sorrell

MALONE — Leo A. Sorrell, 92, of East Road, Burke and formerly of Morrisonville, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, in Malone.
He was born in Morrisonville on June 20, 1918, the son of Amos and Dora (Rivers) Sorrell.
Mr. Sorrell married the former Myrtle Favreau in 1939 in Morrisonville.
She died in 1992.
He was a former member of St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville. He was a life member of American Legion Post 1619 in W. Plattsburgh. A member of the Champlain Valley Antique Gas Engine and Tractor Club, founding member of the Dannemora Riding Club, and several other area riding clubs. He loved to fish and hunt in the local area.
Mr. Sorrell was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the Pacific Theatre.
He was the owner and operator of the Sorrell Farm on Soper St. for 23 years until retiring in 1972. He was also a heavy-equipment operator and master mechanic with the Operating Engineer's Local 106 for 50 years retiring in 1985. In 1987, he moved to Burke, N.Y., to live on his son's dairy farm.
Survivors include his long-time companion, Freda Whitney of Malone; three sons, Oliver Sorrell and his companion, Shirley Stein of Churubusco, Robert Sorrell and his wife, Nancy of Burke, and Wayne Sorrell and his wife, Nancy of Morrisonville; four daughters, Fannie Clark and her husband, Robert of Richmond, Va., Sandra Wright and her husband, Wesley of Peoria, Ariz., Cynthia Ficociello and her husband, Mark of Morrisonville, and Pamela Thomas and her husband, Douglas of Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter-in-law, Helga Parker of Masa, Ariz.; one sister, Rita Vann of Plattsburgh; 23 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one son, Sherman; six grandchildren, Andrew, Whinnie and Mark Sorrell, Wade and Wesley Wright, and Thomas Conway; and two brothers, Levi and Henry "Adrian" Sorrell.
At his request, there will be no public calling hours or funeral service.
