The Memorial Service for Donnie will be Tuesday, March 11, 2014 from 6-8pm, at Hope Baptist Church, 7921 Hwy 28 W (Coliseum Blvd), Alexandria, LA 71303. Visitation will be from 6-7 at which time the Memorial Service will promptly begin.
Robert "Donnie" Slay, 60 years old, passed away March 7, 2014 at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, La at approximately 11:15am. He is survived by his wife of 38 years and his children. He was also survived by 9 grandchildren. Additionally, he was survived by a twin brother and 4 sisters.
He is preceded in death by both his parents Wesley and Eunice "Pat" Slay.
He has served loyally in law enforcement for 25 years. Starting his career in Alaska, he transferred easily to Nye County Sheriff Department where he worked not only as a Deputy, but also in every position including Sniper and Team Leader on the Sheriff's Tactical and Response Team (SWAT). In 2000, he began working with the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office where he devoted his life to taking care of not only the inmates, but anyone he worked with or anyone he found in need.
