Sams describes the Citadel cadets firing on the Star of the West in "The First Shots." In "The Last Shots" he describes the Arsenal Academy cadets' role at Tulifinny and the firing on Gen. Stoneman's cavalry in Williamston.
He shares the stone with Emmie Roberts Sams.
