VERLY AND FLORENCE LIVED IN THE JOHN MADISON RANDALL HOME FOR A SHORT TIME WHERE THEIR FIRST CHILD, "FRANKIE", WAS BORN. THEN "MOVED WEST" TO ALBERTA, CANADA AND LIVED THERE FOR ABOUT TWO YEARS. ON THEIR RETURN, THEY BOUGHT A FARM ON SLUDER BRANCH, LEICESTER, NC. A LITTLE LATER, AFTER THEIR SECOND DAUGHTER, VIOLA, WAS BORN, VERLY BUILT A NEW TWO-STORY HOME ON A FARM UP THE ROAD, THAT HE PURCHASED FROM HIS FATHER. FLORENCE WAS A HOMEMAKER AND VERLY WAS A TRUCK FARMER, PRODUCING AND SELLING CHICKENS, EGGS, MILK, BUTTER, HONEY, VEGETABLES, RASPBERRIES, STRAWBERRIES, AND TOBACCO. THEY WERE AMONG THE FIRST IN THE LEICESTER COMMUNITY TO HAVE ELECTRIC LIGHTS IN THEIR HOME!
